I was involved in a head on collision today. Good news is I’m fine. Bad news is... golf is toast. I cherished every moment with this car and I’m sad it had to go like this. Not posting pics of the wreck. Posting memories.

Not a fan of VWs but losing a car is still sad no matter the brand. So you have my condolences. Hope you find a car that you will find equally special to this one.

I’m s orry for your loss. Hope there were no injuries on either side. I lost my Golf Sportwagen last year when I got T-b oned on the driver’s side. But it saved me from certain death. These are remarkable cars!

Bummer about the car. That’s a fantastic color and I can’t deny plaid seats. I love em. VW really got the software right on those Mk7 TSI engines, too. They got rid of the infuriating hesitation down low I’d experience with every manual transmission mk6 GTI. Impressive low end torque in that Mk7 GTI too.

Genuine joy to drive those.

It was a fantastic car to drive. I rate it with some of the best I’ve driven and I’ve driven stuff from 911s to radicals. Even with an m5 in between

Something less safe and more rollover prone, nice. Sorry for your loss. I miss my GTI. W hen I need a four door, I’ll probably get another. Hopefully I won’t be in the same area much longer, so the shit local dealers won’t be an issue.

I think you should point out to your parents how safe the Golf kept you in a crash. You were unhurt in a head-on collision, that’s pretty impressive.

I was in one about a year and a half ago in my Kia Optima where I was going about 40 mph, though it wasn’t quite head on. The impact was on the front passenger-side quarter. It held up fantastic and my only real injury was on my arm from the airbag. I didn’t buy another Optima because I was looking for something a bit different, but I would absolutely get another one.

Replacing it with another GTI? That’s probably what I’d do if something happened to mine. But I think the Cornflower Rabbits have all been snapped up and the color options for 2020 are...not great.

Geez, 4Runner is not a safer car except for mass. You loved the GTI (RIP, died too young), you should get another GTI.
